Querciabella Chianti Classico

Querciabella Chianti Classico

Chianti Classico, Italy

Alc. 14.5 %

For hundreds of years, the region of Chianti produced blends from grapes like Canaiolo Nero, Colorino, and Sangiovese, and whites like Trebbiano and Malvasia. But in the mid-1800s, Baron Bettino Ricasoli decided to experiment with different grapes, believing that Sangiovese was the grape that best represented the terroir of Chianti. Soon, his contemporaries agreed, and modern Chianti was born! By law, Chianti Classico must contain a minimum of 80% Sangiovese. There's now a diversity of styles, with blends that include native grapes like Canaiolo Nero, international grapes like Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon, and many that are 100% Sangiovese.

Chianti Classico’s 2018 vintage is considered to be one of the most harmonious of the last decade. The weather patterns and a longer ripening season lasted well into idyllic autumn days. Thanks to these near-perfect growing conditions, the great timing, and precision in the grape harvesting, Quercialla brings exceptional quality.

Serve this wine at 16 C now, or cellar until 2029.

This red has a refinement on the nose, but it’s also rustic at the same time. There are lots of fresh and tart wild berry aromas, spices, florals of violet and iris, iron, and tobacco aromas, followed up by some earthy characteristics.

This Chianti Classico is a Sangiovese lover’s dream. The firm structure is well-integrated and the plush tannins wrap around an elevated core of fruit. There is a beautiful balance of crisp acidity, and pure fruit flavours of juicy red berries and cherry, currant, and tomato leaf. This wine epitomizes the greatness of high-altitude, perfectly ripe Sangiovese fruit.

Sangiovese begs to be paired with anything with a tomato sauce, and the natural match would be the Tuscan regional dish of Pappa al Pomodoro.
