Cantina dei Colli Ripani called this line of wines Settantase77e (a play on the spelling of 77,) in honour their first vintage in 1977. Focussing on quality expressions of local grapes, this Rosso Piceno from their home region of Marche is a blend of two of central Italy's most important red grapes: Sangiovese and Montepulciano. Sangiovese is the backbone of Chianti in Tuscany, while Montepulciano finds its home further east in the rolling hills of Abruzzo. They both contribute important elements to the blend, with Sangiovese's signature acidity balancing the rich fruit and tannins of Montepulciano.

Cantina dei Colli Ripani is a member-owned cooperative, whose growers pool their annual grape harvests to create their wines. While uncommon in new world wine regions, this is a very traditional practice throughout Europe, as it allows small growers to bring their wines to market while sharing the costs of operating a winery.

Enjoy this wine over the next 2-3 years at 18 C.

Fresh and vibrant on the nose, with aromas of black cherry, red plum, and pomegranate. Red liquorice (think cherry nibs) lingers in the background, and there's a hint of leafiness and spice.

The balance between Sangiovese and Montepulciano is perfect in this medium-bodied red, with glossy fruit flavours of cherry, strawberry, and raspberry. The tannins are soft and well-integrated, and Sangiovese's trademark acidity shines through on the fresh, energetic finish.

Embrace regional staples like pasta with tomato-based sauce or simple homemade flatbread either of which would be a perfect match for this wine's fresh, rustic fruit flavours.
