There’s plenty going on in the glass of this opaque, purple-tinged wine: black currant, black cherry and raspberry, a bit of smoke, combined with a touch of caramel, chocolate, and cedar.

The red and black fruit come through on the medium-bodied palate as well. The oak influence is detectable (but not overly prominent), in the form of cedar and sweet vanilla. Ageing has resulted in soft, approachable tannins, while the wine has retained its acidity and long finish.

Enjoy with aged cheese, or Fabada Asturiana, a traditional Spanish bean and sausage stew slow-cooked to perfection.

Aromas and Flavours

Black Currant

Sometimes also referred to as 'cassis', this black fruit tasting note is common in red wines.

Fresh B.C. cherries out of the back of a truck, all eaten before you can get them home!

Sweet, fruity and sensual, similar stone fruit aromas to a peach, but without the 'fuzziness.'

Tangy or sweet, juicy or tart: more sophisticated than a strawberry, but just as lush.

Reminds you of singing songs by the campfire on a beautiful summer evening.

You wouldn’t guess it by looking at the traditional wine label, but Castillo de Enériz wines are made in a hyper-modern bodega, or winemaking facility. It is located near the city of Pamplona, and houses state-of-the-art winemaking equipment as well as an ageing room with space for up to 2,000 barrels. The grapes come from the Ribera Alta and Baja Montaña subzones of Navarra, each with different climatic conditions. This D.O. region is known for its diversity of landscapes, climates and soils – each suitable to a specific grape variety, from native variety Tempranillo, to international grapes, mainly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

Castillo de Eneriz was purchased by winemaking family Fernández de Manzanos, who own vineyards all over the D.O. of Navarra. Currently, the fifth generation is at the helm, blending age-old winemaking traditions with new winemaking insights. This Castillo de Eneriz Reserva spent 18 months in both French and American oak barrels and 18 months in bottle before release. It results in a wine that is supple and smooth, without being overly oaky. Serve at 18 ºC and enjoy between now and 2027.
