Inky black in the glass, 3000 Años leads off with concentrated aromas of cherry and blackcurrant liqueur. Fresh fruit follows, with blackberry and blueberry, and some further swirling reveals black pepper, sweet baking spices, and a hint of menthol. This continues to evolve in the glass, so take your time!
Full bodied and packed with youthful tannins, 3000 Años has a lovely glossy texture and tons of appealing fruit flavours. The acidity is surprising (but necessarily) high and carries through the long finish, resulting in a balanced, elegant wine despite the impressive structure. Don't be afraid to open this well before serving, or decant if possible.
Serve with bold dishes that will stand up to this structured red, like Tuscan wild boar ragu over pappardelle, or charcoal-grilled flank steak.

3000 Años is the top-of-the-line release from Bodegas del Rosario, a historic winery located in Bullas, Spain. This arid, sun-baked region is the heartland of Monastrell, which is one of the country's most important native grapes. Monastrell is so important to Bullas that it accounts for nearly 85% of the region's vineyards, and while the area only received D.O. (Denominación de Origen) status in the mid-1990s, grape-growing and winemaking here dates back an estimated (and astonishing!) 3,000 years.
The region's blazing hot summers and low rainfall, coupled with higher elevations and well-draining soil, create a climate that is perfect for Monastrell. Grape skins naturally thicken and darken to reduce the harmful effects of the hot sun, which results in wines of great concentration and aromatic intensity. The fruit from these 100-year-old bush vines is blended with Syrah and aged in new French oak for 18 months, creating a showstopper wine of depth and complexity.
For short-term enjoyment, decant for at least an hour, or age this structured red for a further 7-10 years. Serve at 18 C.
