Returning favourite alert! We first featured this stellar white Bordeaux in the 2017 vintage, and it's once again an exclusive for WineCollective members. If you're not familiar with the dry white wines of Bordeaux, you're not alone: less than 10% of the region's production is white, so very little of it makes it onto shelves in our market. It's a style that's well worth seeking out, and this example from historic Chateau Gantonnet is a great introduction! Sauvignon Blanc, Muscadelle, and Sémillon are the permitted white grape varieties of Bordeaux, and this wine is a blend of all three. Lovers of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc will recognize a hint of the grape's signature citrus and grassiness, but blending with Muscadelle and Sémillon adds dimensions unique to Bordeaux.
Located in the subregion of Entre-Deux-Mers (literally "between two seas," after the two tidal rivers that border the region), Chateau Gantonnet has been producing estate-bottled cuvées since the 19th century. Historic without being stuffy, complex while remaining approachable, the wines of Chateau Gantonnet are testament to the enduring appeal of Bordeaux. Enjoy this dry, elegant white at about 10 C over the next 2-3 years.
