Profile

Smell

Intense notes of blackberry, cherry, figs, which are almost jammy, alongside spice, coffee, and some leather.

Taste

This is one smooth operator – soft tannins and full-bodied, with blackcurrant, coffee, pepper and leather aromas. Powerful and fleshy, it will make its presence felt.

Pairing

Aged cheeses or homemade pasta in a hearty meat sauce would be the perfect match for this broad-shouldered Italian red.

Aromas and Flavours

Cherry

Fresh B.C. cherries out of the back of a truck, all eaten before you can get them home!

Blackberry

A little sweet, a little tart, this black fruit is rather quiet but persistent.

Jam

Spreading grandma's homemade jam on your morning toast (yes, the bread was homemade too).

Herbs

Your windowsill herb garden gives off a lovely herbal smell every time you walk by.

Vanilla

A sweet spice aroma that indicates oak-ageing - think vanilla bean frappuccino!

Description

The town of San Marzano is located in the middle of the Primitivo di Manduria DOP, a strip between the seas that surround Puglia. Long before the wines of this area received worldwide recognition, 19 winegrowers were chasing a dream. They founded Cantine San Marzano to create wines to be reckoned with.

They started focusing on making quality Primitivo, but later also put the local variety Negroamaro in the spotlight. We’re thrilled to present their ‘F’ Negroamaro, a stunning example of this rare grape. It’s cultivated on three vineyards with the letter “F” written on a wooden sign identifying them. The“F” stands for Feudi di San Marzano. Here, temperatures are high all year round, with very little rainfall and a wide range of temperatures between night and day.

The old bushvines give very concentrated fruit, which is picked slightly overripe – resulting in an inky-coloured wine that is robust and, dare we say it, quite potent. Oak-ageing for 12 months further enhances these qualities. Drink between now and 2027, and serve at 18 ºC.
