New Vintage! This wine was previously featured in the store, but is back by popular demand!
When you decide to break a few rules, you can make extraordinary wine. This is the essence of many of the great red blends of Tuscany. The winery, Vallepicciola, is located in Pievasciata, which is a small area within the Chianti region, just north of Siena. Although part of the Chianti wine region, it doesn’t follow the Chianti wine laws. Instead of only using indigenous grape varieties and ensuring the blends contain primarily Sangiovese, winemakers have discovered the advantage of using international grape varieties, particularly Cabernet Sauvignon. Some of the tastiest, long-lived wines in Toscana use traditional Bordeaux grape varieties, often blended with Sangiovese. This is one such wine.
Wines that do not follow Chianti's traditional production rules, and are labeled as IGT are referred to as "Super Tuscan". The first Super Tuscan wine, Tignanello, was produced in 1971, although the name was coined about a decade later. This wine spurred the popularity of the then, unconventional blend.
This wine is brand new to our market, you are some of the first people to enjoy this Tuscan gem! Production on this wine is quite small, only approximately 16,000 bottles are produced so we’re lucky to get our hands on it. Serve at room temperature (about 20 C). Drink now until 2023.
