Smell
The wine is bursting with aromas of ripe red and black fruit: cherry, raspberry and blackberry bordering on fruit liqueur. There’s a bit of licorice, some meatiness from the Mourvèdre and white pepper from the Syrah. Garrigue, the shrubbery so typical of the area, adds a herbaceous note to it all.
Taste
On the palate, again there’s plenty of ripe red and black fruit, with herbaceous, nutty, and almost piney flavours counterbalancing the fruitiness. An elevated acidity keeps the wine light-footed and charming. Tannins are soft and well-integrated, and the wine has a nice velvety structure and good length to it, too. Overall, a real southern French charmeur.
Pairing
A classic coq au vin (chicken braised in red wine), a rustic country terrine (chunky pâté), or a truffle risotto would pair beautifully with this elegant, expressive French red.

A little sweet, a little tart, this black fruit is rather quiet but persistent.
Raspberry

A whiff of a freshly used pepper grinder - spicy and fresh, without the itchy nose.

Description
Les Costières de Pomérols is a cooperative winery in Pomérols, Languedoc (not to be confused with Pomerol, the famous right-bank appellation of Bordeaux). This region in the south of France seems to be made for grape-growing. Summers are long and dry, which helps the grapes ripen perfectly, while gentle sea breezes help moderate the warm temperatures. The hyper-modern winery produces a variety of wine ranges, and this “Expression Nature”, or “natural expression” wine is part of their premium range. It’s a blend of Syrah and Mourvèdre grapes, from old vineyards overlooking the Étang de Thau. This beautiful saltwater lagoon is the most extensive and deepest of all lagoons in the area, an inland sea separated from the Mediterranean Sea by just a narrow strip of sand. The wine is almost inky-coloured, elegant, yet easy-drinking. With a quick, 15-minute cooldown in the fridge before serving, it’s a great match for your barbecue favourites. Serve at 18 ºC and open between now and 2029.
