The vineyards of Aragonas were originally planted in the 1800s and farmed by Cistercian monks living in the hillside who used the wine for sacrament. The original Monastery of Veruela, still intact and operational, is a short distance from the winery and an important piece of history to the region. The Ramon family since taking over the winery in 1984 is dedicated to maintaining the heritage of the Spanish bush vines planted there. Aragonas makes blends that pay homage to the original vines planted in the area in the early 1800s and as a result makes high quality wines from 20+ year-old vines. The land has been used to make wines for a little over a century and still maintains the original grapes that were planted and cultivated in these vineyards. This Coto De Hayas is sourced from 30-year-old bush vines and bottled young to really let the fruit show its character. This wine is meant to be consumed within 1-2 years at a temperature of 18 ºC.
