Profile

Smell

A riot of fresh fruit aromas on the nose, with green apple, lime, peach, and melon, along with a hint of floral notes and an intriguing salinity that reminds us of fresh seaside breezes.

Taste

Unoaked and bright, Terre di Mario Bianco opens with flavours of ripe citrus, crisp green apple, and peach. The acidity is zippy but balanced, never overwhelming the palate, and the finish is fresh and energetic. Well chilled, this is delicious on its own, and will be a great alternative for fans of higher-acid Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc.

Pairing

Match with the simple, bright flavours of fettuccine with asparagus and lemon, or chicken roasted or grilled with fresh herbs.

Aromas and Flavours

Apple

From Granny Smith to Red Delicious, apple makes for a delightfully crisp aroma.

Peach

Fuzzy peach candies, or real-life fuzzy peaches fresh from a fresh B.C fruit stand.

Lemon / Lime

Common in cool climate white wines, this aroma can range from fresh citrus to lemon zest.

Floral

You just received a bouquet from a secret admirer and the smell is intoxicating.

Stone

Remember playing with pebbles as a child and giving them a lick out of curiosity?

Description

Italy boasts a wealth of delicious, refreshing white wines made from a wide array of indigenous grapes, and Terre di Mario Bianco is a perfect example. Hailing from Abruzzo, on Italy's Adriatic coast, Terre di Mario Bianco is a blend of Grillo, Fiano, and Chardonnay. Eagle-eyed observers may recognize producer Progetti Agricoli's name - this is the same trailblazing winery behind longtime member favourite Pattini Chianti. Much to our benefit, Progetti Agricoli produces wine throughout Italy, with a consistent focus on quality and representation of place.

While Chardonnay provides some body to this blend, it's the native Italian grapes Grillo and Fiano that are the true stars of the show. Grillo (one of Sicily's principle whites) contributes a vibrant pop of citrus and a salty, mineral tang, while Fiano offers a waxy texture, appealing nuttiness, and the potential to age. Combined, these three grape varieties create a blend that's quickly become one of our favourite new aperitif wines, perfect for summertime sipping. Serve at 8 C and enjoy over the next two years.
