Profile

Smell

Plenty of classic Cabernet Sauvignon notes on the nose of this wine, with currant, blackberry, and fieldberry jam, along with a telltale hint of menthol and dark chocolate. It's dense and layered, with more spice and smoke emerging with air.

Taste

Full-bodied and glossy on the palate, with rich, ripe blueberry and blackberry fruit, and soft, approachable tannins. There's an elegant acidity thanks to the high-altitude vineyard from which the fruit was sourced, and the long, dry finish shows a hint of stony minerality and campfire smoke.

Pairing

Asado, or traditional Argentinian barbecue, would be a great match for this bold red, but you can't go wrong with anything off the BBQ, from burger, to sausages, to flank steak tacos.

Aromas and Flavours

Black currant

Sometimes also referred to as 'cassis', this black fruit tasting note is common in red wines.

Blackberry

A little sweet, a little tart, this black fruit is rather quiet but persistent.

Jam

Spreading grandma's homemade jam on your morning toast (yes, the bread was homemade too).

Mint

A touch of sweet and cooling herbal flavours, think gum, but without the intense menthol

Chocolate

From milk to dark chocolate, this aroma is irresistible, just like that bar hidden in your drawer.

Description

The love affair with Argentinian Cabernet Sauvignon continues with a brand-new WineCollective exclusive: Triuno! The winery is the project of pioneering viticulturist Alejandro Sejanovich, who earned early acclaim working his way up to the role of vineyard director at famed Catena Zapata. He and fellow Zapata alumnus Jeff Mausbach launched their first independent project, called Manos Negras, in 2010. Since then there's been no looking back, and Sejanovich has turned his considerable energy and expertise to winemaking projects throughout Argentina. Triuno is one such new project, named in tribute to the trio of influences on grape growing: earth, sun and water. The fruit for this Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from a vineyard located in the high-altitude Agrelo district of Luján de Cuyo, at about 3,200' above sea level. Warm days and cool nights allow fruit to ripen slowly, retaining natural acidity while developing full, complex flavours. The finished wine spends 6 months in used French oak barrels before being bottled for release. Enjoy this full-bodied red at about 18 C over the next 2-3 years.
