Smell

Red fruit is at the forefront of this expressive Shiraz, with plenty of bright raspberry, cherry and red plum. There's a dusting of fresh-cracked black pepper, which is textbook Shiraz, along with a faint and very pretty floral note.

Taste

Elegantly styled, The Black Pig showcases a medium body, with a great balance of acid and tannin. There's plenty of red fruit flavours on the palate, but it's not at all jammy, and it finishes dry and fresh. This is a great example of modern, restrained Shiraz.

Pairing

This is a BBQ wine to its core, but light enough to pair with anything from grilled veggie skewers, to saucy chicken drumsticks, to pork ribs. Stock up – this is sure to be a summer backyard favourite!

Black Currant

Sometimes also referred to as 'cassis', this black fruit tasting note is common in red wines.

Raspberry

Tangy or sweet, juicy or tart: more sophisticated than a strawberry, but just as lush.

Pepper

A whiff of a freshly used pepper grinder - spicy and fresh, without the itchy nose.

Cedar / Oak

An intriguing mix of clove, sandalwood and resin - the smell of your favourite wooded trail.

Description

The Black Pig perfectly expresses what's always made this grape so popular. Named in tribute to the herd of black pigs that winemaker Steve Grimley keeps at his McLaren Vale winery, this is a complex, energetic expression of Australia's signature red grape that'll make you fall in love all over again.

Steve Grimley has extensive experience making and marketing wine in Australia and beyond, and The Black Pig captures his signature style: bold fruit, great balance, and a faithful expression of both grape and place. He quickly made a name for himself in the wine industry, forming a group of like-minded winemakers called Five O’Clock Somewhere, who embrace experimentation and strive to create wines that are inspired, inventive and engaging.

The Black Pig is a fantastic example of no-nonsense McLaren Vale Shiraz, and should be enjoyed at about 18 C over the next 2-3 years.
