Ripe red- and black-berried fruit aromas lead the charge here, with plenty of blackcurrant, cherry, and blackberry. Hints of dried herbs add interest and depth, and there's a touch of fresh-cracked black pepper, as well.
Plush and soft on the palate, this full-bodied red has gentle and well-integrated tannins and lots of sweet fruit flavours. The finish is dry, framed by just enough acidity to keep the blend fresh and vibrant. Unassuming and delicious, this is a perfect summer BBQ red.
With enough structure to stand up to protein, this would be a great burger wine for summer, but it's soft enough to handle a bit of heat, too, so it would pair beautifully with spicy ribs or jerk chicken.
Sometimes also referred to as 'cassis', this black fruit tasting note is common in red wines.
Fresh B.C. cherries out of the back of a truck, all eaten before you can get them home!
A little sweet, a little tart, this black fruit is rather quiet but persistent.
A whiff of a freshly used pepper grinder - spicy and fresh, without the itchy nose.
Your windowsill herb garden gives off a lovely herbal smell every time you walk by.

Familiar Tinto is made by Real Companhia Velha, which can trace its history as far back as 1764, making it the oldest continuously operating winery in Portugal! Owned and operated by the Silva Reis family since 1960, the winery remains focussed on producing both port and table wines of the highest possible quality. Their Familiar Tinto is sourced from vineyards in the Lisboa region, which until 2009 was called Estremadura. Stretching northwards along the Atlantic coast from the city of Lisbon, the region produces everything from white and sparkling wines in the north and northwest, to full-bodied reds further inland.
Familiar Tinto is made from a blend of Alicante Bouschet, Aragonês, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Castelão - grapes which (with the exception of Cabernet Sauvignon) might not be familiar at all! Portugal, like most grape-growing countries in Europe, is home to a wide variety of fascinating indigenous grapes, but the main thing to remember is that the wines are delicious! This unoaked blend is the perfect weeknight wine, made for early enjoyment, so serve over the next 3-4 years at about 16℃.
