Profile

Smell

Wonderfully complex aromatics make this wine very desirable. A beautiful bouquet of lilac, bergamot and toasted marshmallow eclipse the nose. A beautiful combination of toasty, sweet and floral notes.

Taste

Well-structured with bold tannins and lush black fruit flavours of blackberry jam, boysenberry, sugarplum and black currant. The well-integrated oak structure leads the way into hints of mocha, cocoa, vanilla and baking spices on the long elegant finish.

Pairing

Pair with a Montreal smoked meat sandwich, beef brisket, blue cheese stuffed portobello mushrooms or braised beef short ribs.

Aromas and Flavours

Black currant

Sometimes also referred to as 'cassis', this black fruit tasting note is common in red wines.

Blackberry

A little sweet, a little tart, this black fruit is rather quiet but persistent.

Plum

Sweet, fruity and sensual, similar stone fruit aromas to a peach, but without the 'fuzziness'.

Vanilla

A sweet spice aroma that indicates oak-ageing - think vanilla bean frappuccino!

Cedar-oak

An intriguing mix of clove, sandalwood and resin - the smell of your favourite wooded trail.

Description

Quinta De Cidro was historically run by royalty. Originally it was in the hands of one of the high court marshals of the time, who was also a close friend of King Edward. It was passed on to the viscount of Asseca in the early 19th century, and came into the hands of Real Companhia Velha in 1972.They made the winery what it is today. Quinta De Cidrô is now one of the largest wineries in the area and also home to the largest continuous vineyard site in the Douro valley of Portugal. Along with being one of the larger wine producers in the country, they are also a huge advocate and producer for the port (a type of fortified dessert wine) industry as well. With its central location in the Douro Valley, the climate is moderated by mountains, rivers and a moderate climate making it perfect for producing high-quality red and white wines. Cabernet Sauvignon was one of the first international grape varieties planted on the vineyards in 1993 and this wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with the indigenous Touriga Nacional grape to give you the ultimate treat. Drink now or in 14 years from now at a temperature of 18 C.
