Profile

Smell

A gorgeous display of fresh spices, saffron, nutmeg, cinnamon, and sage envelop the nose with a fresh forest floor earthy quality that leads into fresh fruit and roasted nutty and coffee aromas.

Taste

Unapologetically bold and structured with ripe tannins that lead into dark plum, black cherry, blackberry and bramble notes. Rich baking spices lead into roasted walnut, chestnut and sweet tobacco notes. Lovely complexity with a long finish that leaves you with hints of mocha, vanilla and dark chocolate lingering on the finish.

Pairing

Pair with salami, mortadella, burrata salad, beef pot pie, cottage cheese, elk stew or grilled ribeye.

Aromas and Flavours

Rose

'A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.' We should all stop and smell them more often...

Bramble

Juicy dark berries picked straight from the bush, with a subtle hint of leaf and earthiness.

Cherry

Fresh B.C. cherries out of the back of a truck, all eaten before you can get them home!

Smoke

Reminds you of singing songs by the campfire on a beautiful summer evening.

Tea

A warm cup of Earl grey tea - with floral scents and slightly earthy notes.

Description

In 1999, Giorgio and Maria Grazia realized their dream of fixing up an old farmhouse and starting a winery, giving life to La Trava. Focusing on a method of simplicity, the Grazia family keeps to traditional farming methods with minimal environmental impact and is dedicated to respecting the land that has produced fine grapes for many years. They kicked off with their first vintage of Moscato in 2000. When daughter Manuela took over the winery's management in 2010, she devoted herself to preserving the integrity of traditional grapes grown in the area and introduced La Trava’s first vintage of Nebbiolo in 2011. The family has since expanded operations planting additional grape varieties such as Favorita, Arneis, Dolcetto and Barbera but keeps their original Moscato vines as a reminder of how the family operation started. This Barolo is structured and designed to develop more character with age. Drink now or in 15 years from now at 18°C.
