Rich and seductive on the nose, this opaque red is packed with layers of black currant, blackberries, and mixed-berry jam. This vintage shows the same smoky, spicy notes of their past releases, with hints of pipe tobacco, coffee, and cloves.
Plush and full-bodied, this is a modern, fruit forward take on Montepulciano, with plenty of ripe fruit and soft, developed tannins. Blackberry and blueberry flavours sit alongside earthier notes of leather, dried herbs, cacao, and dark chocolate. There's a pleasant acidity that lingers on the long, dry finish.
Full-bodied with robust structure and balanced acidity, this red calls for protein, so matched with a grilled steak or roast beef served with glazed carrots and roasted beets.
Sometimes also referred to as 'cassis', this black fruit tasting note is common in red wines.
A little sweet, a little tart, this black fruit is rather quiet but persistent.
Spreading grandma's homemade jam on your morning toast (yes, the bread was homemade too).
The smell of a freshly rolled cigar, slightly sweet, and earthy - just like Grandpa's hugs.
A sweet spice aroma that indicates oak-ageing - think vanilla bean frappuccino!

It's back! Torre Zambra's Colle Maggio Montepulciano d'Abruzzo was a WineCollective fan favourite when we first shared it, so we couldn't resist the opportunity to snap up this new vintage when it arrived in Canada. If you missed it the first time around, you're in for a treat! The De Cerchio family have been stewards of this land since great-grandfather Vincenzo left his native Naples in 1910 to purchase a small plot set around a lookout tower (the Torre of the winery's name) from the Zambra family. He planted the first Montepulciano and Trebbiano vines on gently rolling hillsides, and farmed here until the Second World War ravaged the landscape and the vineyards. It wasn't until Vincenzo's son in law, Laurentino De Cerchio, was released by his Nazi captors in 1947 that the family estate was rebuilt and wine production began anew.
Fourth-generation Federico De Cerchio now helms this venerable estate, and has carried on the tradition of quality set into motion over 100 years ago by his great-grandfather. This Montepulciano perfectly captures the intersection of tradition and modernity, and should be enjoyed at about 18 C over the next 5-7 years.
