Profile

Smell

Lifted aromatics of red cherry, plum and raspberry burst from the glass, along with savoury hints of fresh-ground pepper, dried herbs, and cloves.

Taste

Barbera is sometimes jokingly called the wine to drink while your Barolos and Barbarescos mature, which hints at the approachability common for the grape. This makes it an incredibly easy-to-drink wine when younger, and the Bava's Libera captures this perfectly. Soft and round on the palate, with plenty of red fruit and fine, integrated tannins, this is sure to be a crowd-pleasing red.

Pairing

Softer reds like this are very versatile for pairing, so try with anything from tomato-based pasta dishes to beef, pork or even chicken.

Aromas and Flavours

Cherry

Fresh B.C. cherries out of the back of a truck, all eaten before you can get them home!

Plum

Sweet, fruity and sensual, similar stone fruit aromas to a peach, but without the 'fuzziness'.

Jam

Spreading grandma's homemade jam on your morning toast (yes, the bread was homemade too).

Smoke

Reminds you of singing songs by the campfire on a beautiful summer evening.

Pepper

A whiff of a freshly used pepper grinder - spicy and fresh, without the itchy nose.

Description

The Bava family can trace its impressive history in and around the village of Cocconato back to the early 1600s, but it was in 1911 that the Cantine Bava, as a commercial winery, was born. Since then the winery has been helmed by six successive generations of the Bava family, all striving to make the very best Barbera possible from their vineyards. Today, 50 hectares throughout Monferrato and Langa are planted to grapevines, with another 20 hectares left as woodland and fields. Grapes for this Barbera Libera are sourced from their Pianoalto vineyard in Crena, overlooking the village of Agliano just east of Cocconato.Unoaked and vibrant, this Barbera captures the freshness and energy possible in the region. Enjoy over the next 5 years at 18 C.
