Profile

Smell

Fragrant and expressive on the nose, with aromas of plum, black currant, and tart cherries. Shiraz's characteristic fresh-cracked pepper lingers underneath, along with hints of strawberry jam, balsam, and a touch of smoke.

Taste

Concentrated without being weighty, this medium-bodied blend explodes with flavours of fresh red berries, black tea, fresh-cracked pepper, and spice. It's refined and smooth, with fine-grained tannins and the perfect touch of acidity to keep it balanced.

Pairing

Pair this with bobotie, South Africa's national dish, or opt for something similarly hearty like shepherd's pie or vegetarian chili.

Aromas and Flavours

Black Currant

Sometimes also referred to as 'cassis', this black fruit tasting note is common in red wines.

Plum

Sweet, fruity and sensual, similar stone fruit aromas to a peach, but without the 'fuzziness.'

Cherry

Fresh B.C. cherries out of the back of a truck, all eaten before you can get them home!

Strawberry

A sweet, almost caramel-like aroma reminiscent of your favourite juicy, red berry.

Pepper

A whiff of a freshly used pepper grinder - spicy and fresh, without the itchy nose.

Description

There's so much to like about Lubanzi - from the project's charming origin story (it's named after the curious dog that followed co-founders Charlie Brain and Walker Brown on a trip along South Africa's coast), to their commitment to sustainable environmental practices, to their support for the Pebbles Project (www.pebblesproject.org), which provides health and educational resources for children in farming communities. Perhaps the best part? The wine's fantastic, making it even easier to support such a community-focussed project!

Made from a blend of traditional Rhone grapes Shiraz (or Syrah), Mourvedre, and Grenache grown primarily in the Swartland region, this medium-bodied red is packed with character, and should be enjoyed over the next 3-4 years served at about 18 C.
