We showcased Soléna Estate's delicious Pinot Noir in November packages, and when their Pinot Gris became available, we snapped it up! The winery is the project of owners Laurent and Danielle Andrus Montalieu, who gifted the property to one another as a wedding present, and named it after their daughter. The name combines the Spanish and French words Solana and Soleil, in tribute to the sun, moon, and the cycles of life that are at the forefront of life in a vineyard.
Pinot Gris (or Pinot Grigio in Italy) is one of Oregon's most important white grape varieties, representing about 14% of the state's total vineyard land. Styles vary from light and citrusy to full-bodied and round, with the most common comparison being made to the riper examples common in Alsace. Soléna Estate's is made from 100% Willamette Valley fruit, and can be enjoyed over the next 3-4 years at about 12 C.
