Introduction

Verdera is produced with the natural elements of the region in mind, embracing the nature that creates the uniqueness of their wines. Verdera is the name of a local mountain range in the wine region of Empordà. Empordà stretches from the town of Figueres, northwards to the French border and wine-making region of Côtes du Roussillon. The wine is composed of Garnacha and Cariñena (Carignan), which is very susceptible to powdery mildew. Verdera, 'the wine of the wind', utilizes the northern Tramontana winds to control damaging pests and mildew. The strong wines dry the vineyards, and prevent humidity from settling on the fruit and creating conditions for mould and mildew. The winds also reduces the dependency on extensive spraying of pesticides and chemicals, allowing for more sustainable viticulture practices. Enjoy by 2017 and serve slightly chilled to 17 degrees Celsius.


How it looks

A rich ruby-purple colour with no trail. Clear and clean with big legs that coat the glass when swirled.

How it smells

Floral notes of dried roses with red berries, currants, blackberries and peppered sausage. A unique nose that should make you quite interested to take a sip!

How it tastes

Just short of a meal in a glass, ripe strawberries and black cherries upon entry with black pepper and slight hints of cocoa. The wine is smooth, with moderate acidity and savoury tannins. The body offers more than we initially expected, and finish is round with an emphasis on the tart red berries.

Recommended food pairing

Lamb would make great company to this wine. Try herb-seasoned lamb meatballs with a tomato base over pasta.
