A random encounter of two passionate men created Botalcura Winery in 2000. Juan Fernando Waidele is a Chilean businessman and winemaker who always felt a special connection to the town of Botalcura, and French winemaker, Philippe Debrus, who arrived in Chile in search of a new challenge. The duo would travel Chile in search of the finest grapes in the Maule and Curico Valleys to create their new project, Botalcura. The El Delirio was sourced from Maule, Chile's largest wine-producing valley. The region is divided into three parts: Pacific, Coastal Mountains and Inter-Mountain. While the entire region enjoys hot, dry summers, and overall, a long growing season, the terroir variations create great diversity in grape varieties and wine styles. The wine is approachable in its youth, but will mature with an extra two or three years. Drink at 18 degrees Celsius.
Super deep purple-black core, burgundy on the very outer rim.
Bold and big blackberries, ripe plums and blueberries. We get a lot of notes from the oak, sweet vanilla bean, smoke and BBQ ash. There is also some graphite and mineral hints.
Medium acid, grippy and rugged tannins and big bodied! Cool combination of dark fruit, salami, savoury seasoning, chocolate and spice. Put everything together and it reminds of BBQ with mole sauce and a side of blueberry compote. This NEEDS some food to balance the intensity of flavour.
Go for BBQ, either chicken or ribs with a sweet, smoky sauce. Possibly even spiked with rum!
