Description
Refined and smooth this varietal is native to the landscape of the Ribeiro and considered a jewel among the native white Spanish varietals. Ribeiro has a long history in vine growing, going all the way back to Roman times. In fact, it is probably Europe’s oldest demarcated zone. It ripens slowly and is very sensitive to altitude. It is grown mainly in valleys and on slopes that are well-orientated. Its production would be considered slightly vigorous and isn't very resistant to droughts and needs warm soils to thrive and produce quality fruit. Classic aromatics would include delicate white flower and hints of balsamic. What makes this grape appealing is that it produces wines that are dry, fresh and balanced with a generous unctuous texture that is very appealing. Vina Costeira has 1,000 hectares of vineyards which represents about 40% of the total production of the total production of the DO, and are the largest winery in Galicia. The bodegas can boast over 53 years of wine-making tradition as it was established in 1968. Vina Costeira is actually a co-operative winery and has over 450 member growers. Vina Costeira works with only indigenous varietals that are native to the landscape of the Ribeiro. Sustainability is also at the forefront of what they do, preserving the natural landscape for future generations.
