Profile

Description

For centuries, Bodegas Coloma has been making wine. The Coloma family tradition started when Don Francisco Coloma started making homemade wines for the locals of their hometown, Villanueva de los Infantes Valladolid. His son, José Félix, decided to continue in his father's footsteps but decided to do it down south in Extremadura. His first plantings were in Alvarado, along the river banks of a tributary of the Guadiana River. The climate here is exceptional for tending to the native Spanish varietals. Garnacha Tintorera, Alarije, and Graciano are grown beside international varietals that he introduced much later on such as Pinot Noir, Merlot, and Muscadet. Decades later, the winery is still in the hands of the family. Sister Amelia is responsible for the vineyards and winemaking. It is under her skilled eye, that every wine is crafted to perfection. Amelia has an amazing palate and unique intuition and takes personal care of each wine in each stage of its development. Each one of her wines has been called a unique piece of art. Helena, her sister, handles the management and all of the commercial work. Felix, their brother, handles all the export activities. The winery is very unique, it is a castle named Torre Bermeja, but it is completely covered in vines (which helps to keep it cool for the wines!).

Pairing

Barbequed brisket, spicy Italian sausage, mint lamb chops.

Aromas and Flavours

Blackberry

A little sweet, a little tart, this black fruit is rather quiet but persistent.

Plum

Sweet, fruity and sensual, similar stone fruit aromas to a peach, but without the 'fuzziness'.

Herbs

Your windowsill herb garden gives off a lovely herbal smell every time you walk by.

Fig

Reminiscent of coconut, figs have a slight grassiness to them and a hint of sweet spice.

Floral

You just received a bouquet from a secret admirer and the smell is intoxicating.
