Description
Made by the superstar winemaker Javi Revert. This is a village red blend of the indigenous varietal Bobal and the French import Syrah with 10% Touriga Nacional. Finca Sandoval was founded in early 1998 by editor and wine columnist Victor de la Sern. Victor brought acclaim and attention to the largely overlooked region of Manchuela. Now the property is owned by businessman and wine-nut Angel Garcia-Cordero and the talented winemaker Javi Revert, who has been making wine here since 2019. The resulting wines have been described by international wine critics as being "soulful, vibrant that epitomise Spain's modern wine scene". Javi, who is credited with revitalising interest in Valencian wines was born into a grape-growing family, his family history embedded in Spain's viticultural history. All the grapes for the Salia blend were handpicked and co-fermented using indigenous yeast strains, and aged in 300 and 500 litre oak barrels, as well as 2500 litre foudres for 12 months. Hints of blackberries, floral notes on the palate that is rounded and generous in its fruit. There is a touch of cinnamon, dried olives and hints of savoury. The tannins are well presented, firm but also smooth and supple. Its more approachable than its sister, the Sandoval, and more youthful in style.
