Profile

Description

Mi Terruño is owned and operated by the Baigorria family and has been involved in the Argentinian wine industry since the 1960s. First with the purchase of their own vineyards and then later on in 2004, with their own winery. The brother-sister duo run the estate: Gabriel Baigorria who is the commercial director, and Maria Baigorria is the winemaker. The winery is located in the beautiful town of San Roque, in the Maipú region in the valley of Luján de Cuyo. The vineyards range in elevations between 450 to 1200 meters above sea level. They are also scattered around the Mendoza River, which serves as the primary source of irrigation. The plots in the high grounds are located in the foothills and receive ample rainfall and the amplitude helps intensify the characteristics of red grapes such as Malbec and Sangiovese. The plots in the east have a comparatively warmer climate, allowing for optimal maturation of the cultivated varietals. The plots at the UCO valley are characterized by their ability to consistently produce quality grapes. The space they occupy was originally an old glass tile factory. The Baigorria family combines modern winemaking techniques with traditional ones. Mi Terruño translates to “my terroir”. The grapes were hand harvested, de-stemmed, and left to macerate for 72 hours. 55% of this wine has seen maturation in French and American oak barrels for four months before the final blending.

Pairing

Beef roulade, smoked tofu, and bacon-wrapped scallops.

Aromas and Flavours

Mint

A touch of sweet and cooling herbal flavours, think gum, but without the intense menthol

Bell pepper

Fresh green, herbaceous notes in wine - a little is desired, a lot, not so much.

Blackberry

A little sweet, a little tart, this black fruit is rather quiet but persistent.

Coconut

"Need a vacation? Transport yourself to the beach, with a tropical bevvy in a coconut shell.

Jam

Spreading grandma's homemade jam on your morning toast (yes, the bread was homemade too).
