Profile

Description

The hunt for the unusual (and unusually delicious) is a constant one here at WineCollective, so we were thrilled to find this fantastic example of a little-known grape from acclaimed producer Maison Adrien Vacher. While you won't find Jacquère grown in many places in the world, it's hugely important in its native region of Savoie (spelled Savoy in English), in eastern France. The landscape here is dramatic and mountainous, suitable mainly for smaller plots of cool-climate grape varieties. Jacquère does beautifully here and is the centrepiece grape for the majority of the region's dry whites. Fourth-generation, family-owned Maison Adrien Vacher began life as one of the first companies to sell the region's wines in bottle. Prior to the 1950s, wines from Savoie were sold in barrels and rarely attributed to the region. Official recognition as an AOC came in 1973, and since then the quality and distinctiveness of the region's wines has increased exponentially. Serve this refreshing, dry white now, at about 8 C.

Pairing

Imagine finishing a day of gentle fall hiking in the French alps, and pair this bright white with a hearty but casual meal of regional fondue or raclette.
