Profile

Description

We've always loved Ciro Urciuolo's wines at WineCollective, so we're thrilled to feature the flagship white from his Danimi estate, located in Ciro's home region of Irpina, in Campagnia. The Danimi name is a tribute to Ciro's three children, and is a combination of the first two letters of each of their names: David, Nick, and Michela. The commitment to family and to the land runs deep, and Ciro's wines are consistently a faithful (and delicious!) expression of the land and to the region's wealth of indigenous cultivars. If you're unfamiliar with Fiano, it's a great introduction to the grapes of Campagnia. It's the region's most important white grape variety, and it's thought to have ancient origins in this part of Italy. Now making a long-overdue comeback, wines made from Fiano are aromatic and expressive, and often display an alluring nutty quality. Enjoy this Fiano at about 8 C over the next 1-2 years.

Pairing

Ciro's wife Caterina swears by Spaghetti alle vongole as the perfect match for this wine, and we are inclined to agree! Look for her recipe for this classic pasta dish with fresh clams in the November guide.
