Profile

Description

Tasmania is one of Australia's most exciting up-and-coming fine wine regions, so we were thrilled to discover the wines of Devil's Corner. Named after a particularly rough patch of ocean off their home on the east coast of Tasmania, Devil's Corner focuses on what have become the signature grape varieties of the region: Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Since the island is much cooler temperature-wise than the Australian mainland, it's the perfect spot for these cool-climate grapes to thrive. Winemaker Tom Wallace capitalizes on the long growing season of coastal Tasmania to coax grapes to full maturity while retaining their all-important acidity. Their Chardonnay is more reminiscent of Chablis than new-world styles from California, and a light touch of oak adds depth without overwhelming the fruit. Enjoy this delicious expression of Tassie Chardonnay over the next 2-3 years at about 12 C.

Pairing

Match with butter-poached halibut with lemon and thyme that will echo the notes of citrus and fresh herbs in the wine, or try with an appetizer of Camembert and granny smith apple.

Aromas and Flavours

Lemon-lime

Common in cool climate white wines, this aroma can range from fresh citrus to lemon zest.

Apple

From Granny Smith to Red Delicious, apple makes for a delightfully crisp aroma.

Pear

A romantic picnic in the orchard, with your partner and their favourite white wine.

Nectarine

A soft, fruity aroma with floral undertones. Similar to a peach or apricot, but honey-heavy!

Melon

Sweet and fruity, with a particular flavour/scent that resembles persimmons
