Profile

Description

This is the second Genio wine being offered by WineCollective this month. Wines from Jumilla (in Murcia) have a rich and storied history. Like most other wine regions in Spain, wine making can be traced back to the Greeks, who were great wine lovers, and the love of this wine continued with the Romans. The DO of Jumilla was established in 1966, and vines were planted on high plains between 1300 and 3000 feet in altitude. These vineyards here have a continental-mediterranean climate, which means warmer summers and shorter winters, ideal in helping to ripen grapes. Jumilla is becoming increasingly well-known in the world for its wines, which have excellent value for money compared to other regions in Spain. Tempranillo is a black grape variety, a widely grown, native Spanish grape - making full-bodied, age-worthy red wines. It is unofficially considered to be Spain’s national grape, as the country grows over 80% of the world’s Tempranillo. Enjoy this wine served at 16 C, from now until 2024.

Pairing

Pair this medium-bodied red with a Spanish paella with chicken, sausage and chorizo, or try it with veggie or beef tacos.

Aromas and Flavours

Raspberry

Tangy or sweet, juicy or tart: more sophisticated than a strawberry, but just as lush.

Cherry

Fresh B.C. cherries out of the back of a truck, all eaten before you can get them home!

Strawberry

A sweet, almost caramel-like aroma reminiscent of your favourite juicy, red berry.

Jam

Spreading grandma's homemade jam on your morning toast (yes, the bread was homemade too).

Cedar-oak

An intriguing mix of clove, sandalwood and resin - the smell of your favourite wooded trail.
