Profile

Description

If you're a fan of California wines, you've likely come across Cline Cellars at some point - now celebrating their 40th vintage, they have a well-deserved reputation for producing some of Sonoma's best wines. A passion project of theirs has been discovering and nurturing some of California's oldest vineyards to preserve the state's viticultural heritage, and these exceptional plots are bottled under their Ancient Vines label. The fruit for their Ancient Vines Carignane come from dry-farmed vineyards in Contra Costa County, ranging in age from 40 to over 100 years old. Poor, sandy soils, hot weather, and exceptional vine age combine to create wines with remarkable depth and intensity. When we first tasted this Carignane, we knew we needed to share it with WineCollective members, so we scooped up the entirety of the first ever shipment to arrive in Canada. Enjoy this rare bottle over the next 5-7 years, and serve at about 16 C.

Pairing

Bright candied fruit notes and an underlying herbaceousness make this the perfect pairing to tacos, spicy pork dishes, and tartare.

Aromas and Flavours

Plum

Sweet, fruity and sensual, similar stone fruit aromas to a peach, but without the 'fuzziness'.

Pepper

A whiff of a freshly used pepper grinder - spicy and fresh, without the itchy nose.

Blueberry

Eating handfuls of berries straight from the bush, your fingers stained purple for days to come.

Nutmeg-cloves

Think of the holidays - a warm and woody spice found in your favourite baked goodies.

Cherry

Fresh B.C. cherries out of the back of a truck, all eaten before you can get them home!
