Profile

Smell

Crunchy granny smith and honeycrisp apple aromatics burst from the glass, followed by riper tropical fruit notes of lychee and guava. There's a hint of white blossoms, along with an underlying stony minerality that ties it all together.

Taste

Juicy and vibrant on the palate, with a core of expressive fruit carried along by a persistent, mouthwatering acidity. The finish is long, dry, and pure, inviting another sip of this delicious expression of Oregon Pinot Gris.

Pairing

Creamy pasta dishes would be the perfect complement to this wine's bright acidity - try with a classic Fettuccine Alfredo!

Aromas and Flavours

Apple

From Granny Smith to Red Delicious, apple makes for a delightfully crisp aroma.

Lychee

Sweet, ripe and juicy, lychee is reminiscent of a hypothetical rose-water grape!

Pear

A romantic picnic in the orchard, with your partner and their favourite white wine.

Floral

You just received a bouquet from a secret admirer and the smell is intoxicating.

Stone

Remember playing with pebbles as a child and giving them a lick out of curiosity?

Description

We showcased Soléna Estate's delicious Pinot Noir in November packages, and when their Pinot Gris became available, we snapped it up! The winery is the project of owners Laurent and Danielle Andrus Montalieu, who gifted the property to one another as a wedding present, and named it after their daughter. The name combines the Spanish and French words Solana and Soleil, in tribute to the sun, moon, and the cycles of life that are at the forefront of life in a vineyard. Pinot Gris (or Pinot Grigio in Italy) is one of Oregon's most important white grape varieties, representing about 14% of the state's total vineyard land. Styles vary from light and citrusy to full-bodied and round, with the most common comparison being made to the riper examples common in Alsace. Soléna Estate's is made from 100% Willamette Valley fruit, and can be enjoyed over the next 3-4 years at about 12 C.
