Profile

Description

Bodega Mi Turruño has been a longtime favourite of ours at WineCollective, and consistently produces some of our best-loved Argentinian wines. The family-owned winery is located in the San Roque district, in Mendoza's Maipú county. Mi Turruño's Baigorria family have been connected to the wine business since the 1960s, with the aim of producing wines that express their pride in Mendoza. The wines are all created with the intention of highlighting key grape varietals from their terroir, or 'terruño'. Their Reserve-level Cabernet Sauvignon is new to Canada, so we snapped up as much as we could get. The fruit is sourced from Barrancas, in Maipú, where slightly warmer conditions are ideally suited to growing late-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon. The use of second-fill oak barrels allows the wine to soften and develop without masking the complex fruit. Enjoy over the next 3-5 years at 18 C.

Pairing

Go simple but bold: Picanha seasoned heavily with salt and fresh-cracked pepper, grilled on charcoal, and served with chimichurri.

Aromas and Flavours

Black currant

Sometimes also referred to as 'cassis', this black fruit tasting note is common in red wines.

Blackberry

A little sweet, a little tart, this black fruit is rather quiet but persistent.

Blueberry

Eating handfuls of berries straight from the bush, your fingers stained purple for days to come.

Mint

A touch of sweet and cooling herbal flavours, think gum, but without the intense menthol

Vanilla

A sweet spice aroma that indicates oak-ageing - think vanilla bean frappuccino!
