Smell
Red plum and ripe raspberries are at the fore, with hints of tart red cherry, crushed herbs, and white pepper. The spice components evolve as the wine opens up in the glass, with notes of sweet baking spices and a touch of graphite.
Taste
Puerto del Monte's medium-bodied palate is sleek and seamless, with well-integrated tannins and youthful fruit flavours. It's juicy and energetic, with enough lift through the finish to keep it refreshing.
Pairing

Description
If you've never heard of Mencia, you are in for a treat! It's northwest Spain's most important red grape, and the star of the show in Bierzo, where Bodegas Adria is located. Fourth-generation owners Margarita and Rocío have carried their family traditions into the present day, focussing their energy on the region's indigenous grape varieties. Their Puerto del Monte is made from fruit from 45-year-old vines, planted on slopes at altitudes ranging from 450-700 meters above sea level. Careful hand harvesting ensures optimal grape health, and after fermenting in temperature-controlled stainless steel, the wine is aged for a further 2-3 months in a mixture of French and American oak barrels. Drink now or over the next two years, and serve at about 18 C.
