Profile

Description

The family's roots that began this winery go back to the 1800's with the family exporting wines to the distant lands of the Savoy. Generation after generation of family members have carried this winery into the present day, where in 1980, the Di Carlo family decided to transition all of their production into becoming certified organic. Agriverde's main objective is to operate respecting the environment and to protect the balance of the natural system. It was in recent years Agriverde also achieved Certified organic vegan. They are one of the first wineries to be certified organic in Italy. The winery is situated in Ortona in the province of Chieti. Montepulciano is Italy’s second most widely planted red grape varietal after Sangiovese. A native of Central Italy, it thrives in the hot sunny summers and a variety of soil types. It is often called “Pizza wine” but Montepulciano can be very interesting. This Montepulciano had a long maceration on its skins in stainless steel tanks to preserve the fruit and was then further aged in concrete tanks for a further 12 months before being bottled. The resulting wine is very fresh with bracing notes of black fruit, violets black cherry and raspberry. The finish is long with layers of pepper and plum.

Pairing

Beef Bolognese, eggplant parmigiana, venison hamburgers.

Aromas and Flavours

Cherry

Fresh B.C. cherries out of the back of a truck, all eaten before you can get them home!

Raspberry

Tangy or sweet, juicy or tart: more sophisticated than a strawberry, but just as lush.

Pepper

A whiff of a freshly used pepper grinder - spicy and fresh, without the itchy nose.

Plum

Sweet, fruity and sensual, similar stone fruit aromas to a peach, but without the 'fuzziness'.

Floral

You just received a bouquet from a secret admirer and the smell is intoxicating.
