Description
Andreas Bender has a viticultural background thanks to his dad who taught him all he knows. He made his first wine at the tender age of 13! He went off to study at Geisenheim (one of the most prestigious wine institutes in the world) and gained first-hand experience working in countries like Italy, France, and the USA before starting his own winery project in 2008. He is a little unusual in his winemaking approach: he blends his wines according to three different styles, rather than using a single vineyard bottling approach (what they do in Germany). This is very similar to how Champagne houses will blend across different villages to achieve a consistent house style. Modern, yet traditional. When it comes to winemaking his philosophy is all about careful cellar work, natural fermentation, and more of a hands-off approach. Scheurebe is believed to be a Riesling cross developed in 1916 by a German Viticulturist. Highly aromatic and just a hint off-dry. Fruit driven with a just picked-off-the-tree type of freshness, with lingering cool climate acidity. These wines often also have a touch of salinity to them which makes them great food wines. This example has spent some time on its lees which creates a creamy mouthfeel and balances out the acidity.
