Profile

Description

Anne-Sophie Dubois is part of a young generation of winemakers that is slowly redefining the identity of Beaujolais. She was almost destined to work with Burgundy varietals as she was born and raised in Champagne and decided at an early age to pursue a career in what she loved: wine. She spent her early years honing her skills in Burgundy and decided to plant roots in Beaujolais. Many vineyard regions in France are impossible to buy in, however in the Beaujolais region that isn't the case. After falling in love with Gamay, she was able to purchase 8 hectares in the heart of the Fleurie Cru. Anne-Sophie has farmed her vineyards organically and most of her plots are of considerable age: her oldest vines are pushing 60+ years. Her approach is minimal in nature: she favours a Burgundian approach to making her wine and has a strong commitment to the structure of her vineyards, keeping them as healthy and strong as possible in their natural state. She is credited with creating what some experts call the most "soulful" of Fleurie out there today and the most Burgundy-like. Her wines have depth and complexity and have the capacity to age. This has been described as a fresh energetic, robust Gamay with underlying notes of mineral, red fruit, bramble, and hints of spice. A bit waxy on the palate with a medium-firm body and balanced acidity. The fruit is very bright and appealing: it's all cherry, raspberry, and fresh strawberries.

Pairing

Rabbit rillettes, poached salmon, or smoked ham with coriander.

Aromas and Flavours

Cherry

Fresh B.C. cherries out of the back of a truck, all eaten before you can get them home!

Raspberry

Tangy or sweet, juicy or tart: more sophisticated than a strawberry, but just as lush.

Strawberry

A sweet, almost caramel-like aroma reminiscent of your favourite juicy, red berry.

Bramble

Juicy dark berries picked straight from the bush, with a subtle hint of leaf and earthiness.

Jam

Spreading grandma's homemade jam on your morning toast (yes, the bread was homemade too).
