Profile

Description

As longtime fans of Argentina's Bodegas Casarena, we were eager to taste the wines from their newest label, Areyna. The quality lives up to the high standards of their previous releases, so we jumped at the opportunity to offer them as exclusive selections for WineCollective members! The winery has long been focused on bringing out the best of specific terroir within the varied sub-regions of Lujan de Cuyo. Headed by esteemed winemaker Micheal Rolland, Caserana produces impeccable wines from Argentina's signature grapes. Here, in Lujan de Cuyo, just south of the city of Mendoza, vineyards are planted in the rain shadow of the Andes, where vines thrive in a hot, dry climate. The altitude of the vineyards provide reprieve from the heat, allowing grapes to ripen slowly and retain beautiful acidity. Cabernet Sauvignon is just as well suited to this terroir as the country's signature Malbec, and this is a prime example! Enjoy now at about 18 C, or cellar for the next 3-4 years.

Pairing

Hit the grill, and serve this with staples like a fully loaded bacon cheeseburger or a classic steak sandwich with onion rings on the side.

Aromas and Flavours

Blackberry

A little sweet, a little tart, this black fruit is rather quiet but persistent.

Cherry

Fresh B.C. cherries out of the back of a truck, all eaten before you can get them home!

Black currant

Sometimes also referred to as 'cassis', this black fruit tasting note is common in red wines.

Bell pepper

Fresh green, herbaceous notes in wine - a little is desired, a lot, not so much.

Tobacco

The smell of a freshly rolled cigar, slightly sweet, and earthy - just like Grandpa's hugs.
