Profile

Description

Alejandro Sejanovich and Jess Mausbach are co-owners of this estate; an ownership shared between friends who worked side by side, building a lasting friendship through experience and hard work. The winery name reflects their attitude toward winemaking: getting their hands dirty with a fearless, hands-on approach from budbreak to bottle. This duo has been getting their hands dirty together in the vineyards for over 25 years. They began working together at the famous Bodega Catena Zapata. Their experience there taught them many valuable lessons. Jeff is a sommelier and Alejandro is the viticulturist who is now considered one of the most knowledgeable experts on South American terroir. Daring, bold, and adventurous. A cross between old world traditions combined with modern wine ambitions. Atrevida Malbec is made from fruit that is cultivated from high altitude vineyards high up in the majestic Andes, at extreme elevations of 4000 meters above sea level. This Malbec has around 5% Cabernet Franc blended into it to lift the fruit and add depth and complexity along with intense floral aromas. Both varietals were co-fermented together and left to cold soak to extract more character. Aged nine months in French oak. Firm structure combined with earthy elements, and blue fruits, make this a Malbec worthy of cellar age.

Pairing

Pork and blueberry sausages, mushroom pizza, rosemary and red wine braised beef shanks

Aromas and Flavours

Blueberry

Eating handfuls of berries straight from the bush, your fingers stained purple for days to come.

Plum

Sweet, fruity and sensual, similar stone fruit aromas to a peach, but without the 'fuzziness'.

Cherry

Fresh B.C. cherries out of the back of a truck, all eaten before you can get them home!

Vanilla

A sweet spice aroma that indicates oak-ageing - think vanilla bean frappuccino!

Lemon-lime

Common in cool climate white wines, this aroma can range from fresh citrus to lemon zest.
