Profile

Description

A classic varietal from Piedmont region, Barbera is a wine that exemplifies notes of cherry, bramble, and plums. Juicy to its core, but concentrated enough to be considered structured. Barbera is believed to have been orginated in the hill sof Monferrato, in central Piedmont where it has been documented since the thirteenth century. Widely planted in the north, Barbera can be fresh and fruity, yielding medium bodied wines with intense fresh red fruit, or it can be more complex, showing more intensity with a bit of oak treatment.

Pairing

Tender veal shanks, hearty baked pastas, and nut-centric dishes.

Aromas and Flavours

Plum

Sweet, fruity and sensual, similar stone fruit aromas to a peach, but without the 'fuzziness'.

Cherry

Fresh B.C. cherries out of the back of a truck, all eaten before you can get them home!

Black currant

Sometimes also referred to as 'cassis', this black fruit tasting note is common in red wines.

Pepper

A whiff of a freshly used pepper grinder - spicy and fresh, without the itchy nose.

Mineral

Hints of earth and clay, with a slightly damp, chalky undertone.
