Profile

Description

Bodegas Murviedro was founded in 1927 and their original philosophy of ensuring care, preservation, and respect for the land, defending sustainable viticulture and enology still stands with the company today. Murviedro is owned by the Swiss firm Bodegas Schenk which was founded in 1893 in Switzerland by a young man, Arnold Schenk who built his company up on winery acquisitions across Europe, notably France, Italy, Spain, and Germany. Bodegas Murviedro is named after its most famous Valencian wine "Cavas Murviedro". The strategy is focused on growing only native varietals to each region which are the best ambassadors for their country. The majority of their vineyards are what are considered 'old vines' and are meticulously cultivated by the most sustainable methods. Underneath the old quarter of the city of Requena is Murviedro's Historic Winery. This winery can be toured as it is an education into the winemaking methods of the past, you can tour around the ancient artifacts of the winery that were used as far back as 5th century BC. A connection that the present winery has with its past. This Tempranillo is all about red fruit, which is quite aromatic and present both on the nose and the palate. Think of freshly picked strawberries, cranberry jelly, and ripe raspberries. Some coffee notes hint at the end of the experience and the tannins are soft yet firm, and balanced by a fresh acidity. Some violet notes linger on the palate and the colour of the wine is an intense ruby red with a darker ruby core. Structured yet rounded.

Pairing

Braised wild boar ragu, olive tapenade, charcuterie meats, and hard aged cheeses.

Aromas and Flavours

Strawberry

A sweet, almost caramel-like aroma reminiscent of your favourite juicy, red berry.

Cranberry

Sweet and tart, just like the cranberry sauce at your family's Thanksgiving table.

Raspberry

Tangy or sweet, juicy or tart: more sophisticated than a strawberry, but just as lush.

Violet

A soft, powdery, woody floral aroma popular in women's perfume - so romantic!

Olive

Briny quality, slightly bitter and green. Think about that dirty Martini you recently had!
