Description
It's no secret that we're big fans of Italy's dizzying array of indigenous grapes here at WineCollective, so we're always thrilled to share a new favourite! Brugnano is a small family-owned winery located in north-western Sicily and run by brothers Francesco and Giuseppe Brugnano. Their tiny (less than 4 acres!) farm is planted primarily to native grape varieties, through which Sicily's unique viticultural environment can be expressed.
Insolia is thought to have originated in Sicily, but it's also grown in Tuscany, where it's more commonly called Ansonica. While often used as a blending partner for other white grape varieties like Vermentino, Catarratto, or Grillo, on its own, Insolia produces textured, complex whites that can even display a hint of tannin. Brugnano's example is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel to preserve freshness, and aged for about four months before release. Enjoy at about 10 C over the next two years.
