Description
Cooler fall weather calls for white wines with a bit more heft and body, and a go-to region for us at WineCollective is the south of France. Across the area, grapes like Marsanne, Roussanne, Viognier and Grenache Blanc lend weight and texture to deliciously aromatic wines that can stand up to the fuller-flavoured dishes we crave as nights get colder.
In Corbieres, in Languedoc-Roussillon, Château du Vieux Parc makes their Cuvée l'Héritage Blanc from a blend of Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, and Vermentino. The latter adds an appealing freshness to the weight of Roussanne and Grenache Blanc, keeping the finish clean and bright. The property has been in the Mialhe and Panis family for six generations, but it was only under the auspices of fourth-generation Guy Panis that the focus has shifted away from farming to estate bottling of quality-focussed wines. Son Louis and grandson Guillaume are now at the helm, continuing the family tradition.
Enjoy this expressive white over the next year at about 12 C.
Pairing
Try with classic roast chicken or potato leek soup - it can stand up to full flavours while lending just enough acidity for balance.
