Description
Chateau Roquefort is owned and operated by the Bellanger family located in the historic area of Saint-Emilion in Bordeaux. It was originally owned by painter Alain de Condé, who was a descendant of the House of Condé. The vineyards disappeared during the 20th century and the artist primarily maintained the chartreuse house. Jean and Christiane Bellanger fell in love with the estate and purchased it in 1976. Jean worked with the Bordeaux Faculty of Oenology to quickly adopt the best winemaking methods. Together, they renewed the vineyards but it was their son, Frédéric who, after taking over the winery in 1995 continued to develop the estate with his commitment to biodiversity and the local terroir. The estate has now over 240 hectares of vines and has been producing high-quality Bordeaux wines for over 40 years. This Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon blend is from vineyards that are 25 years in age and the vines are grown predominantly in clay, chalk soils. The wine is vinified in French oak barrels for one month and aged on its lees in new barrels for six months. Clear and brilliant straw yellow in its core, this wine has complex aromatics of lychee, pineapple, and grapefruit, with slight herbaceous hints and William’s pear. The wine shows a nice tension with bracing acidity with a long lean length that finishes with a hint of dried floral notes and a light gooseberry character.
