Profile

Description

Château Roquefort is owned and operated by the Bellanger family located in the historic area of Saint-Émilion in Bordeaux. It was originally owned by painter Alain de Condé, who was a descendant of the House of Condé. The vineyards disappeared during the 20th century and the artist primarily maintained the chartreuse house. Jean and Christiane Bellanger fell in love with the estate and purchased it in 1976. Jean worked with the Bordeaux Faculty of Oenology to quickly adopt the best winemaking methods. Together, they renewed the vineyards but it was their son, Frédéric who, after taking over the winery in 1995 continued to develop the estate with his commitment to biodiversity and the local terroir. The estate has now over 240 hectares of vines and has been producing high-quality Bordeaux wines for over 40 years. This wine is a blend of 85% Merlot, 5% Malbec, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The vines are over 25 years of age. After vinification, the wine was placed in French oak barrels for 12 months. The texture of this wine is full and rich. The bouquet offers notes of ripe black fruit, vanilla, leather, and graphite. The tannins are fine-grained and supple, balanced by the acidity that keeps the fruit fresh and long in length.
