Richly aromatic, with all the textbook Viognier scents of ripe pear, peach, and bruised apples. As it warms up in the glass, hints of honeysuckle and dried sage begin to emerge, and there's faint citrus notes of pink grapefruit and orange peel lingering in the background.

Fuller bodied on the palate, but with balanced acidity that keeps things fresh and prevents the wine from becoming cloying. Flavours of ripe red and yellow apple, poached pear, and sage butter dominate, with hints of orange blossom and tangerine. Viognier's signature oiliness creates a long, lasting finish that will appeal to fans of ripe, unoaked chardonnay and lighter whites alike.

An ideal match for roast chicken served with herbed scalloped potatoes, or a hearty vegetarian soup like cream of potato or french onion.

The south of France is a hotbed of exciting wines at the moment, combining centuries of grape-growing knowhow with an enterprising, creative spirit. The diversity of grapes and soils, combined with a broadly warm, dry, climate, have drawn ambitious winemakers from elsewhere in France and from around the world. Domaine de Castelnau, located in the Pays d'Oc, is a fantastic example of the level of quality possible from this dynamic region. Viognier is one of southern France's star white grapes. It's the only permitted grape variety in prestigious Condrieu, but is grown throughout the region. When it's fermented at cool temperatures and aged in stainless steel like this delicious example from Domaine de Castelnau, it expresses all of its signature aromatics while preserving the grape's natural acidity. This is a great white for fall, perfect for cooler evenings and heartier meals. Enjoy at about 8 C over the next 2 years.
