Description

Dott wines are made by the folks over at Chalmers Wine Estate. The Chalmers family has been committed to creating unique wines for over 30 years. Through their nursery, vineyards, and wine brands, they have always encouraged viticultural diversity that supports sustainable vineyard growth and regional Australian wine production. Dott wines are all based on Italian varietals thanks to the work of the late Dr. Rod Bonfiglioli. Dr. Bonfiglioli was focused on vine material health and diversity. He encouraged Chalmers to look beyond to find grapes that might do better in different parts of Australia than what was currently growing there. Dr. Bonfiglioli connected Chalmers with some influential organizations that helped them bring in Italian varietals. Chalmers are the Australian agents for the Italian nursery Vivai Cooperativi Rauscedo (VCR). They are the largest vine nursery in Italy and also have one of the best research facilities worldwide. Dott wines challenge the concept that native varietals cannot make beautiful expressions in alternate landscapes. Chalmers imported Prosecco vines through the Dr. Bonfiglioli connection with VCR in 1998, decades before the variety and wine style had become as fashionable as it is today. Prosecco does incredibly well here in the sandy and limestone soils of the region, promoting a firm fruit character in the wines. The resulting wine is refreshingly crisp, with hints of kaffir lime, Nashi pear with a delicate fizz and mineral finish.
