Profile

Description

Bodegas Nodus' En La Parra Tinto is made from Bobal, the star red grape of the winery's home region of Utiel-Requena, in Valencia, Spain. Native to this part of the Iberian peninsula, Bobal has a long and distinguished history, despite being relatively unknown outside of Spain. If you've never had a chance to try this grape, you're in for a treat! Unlike many other reds grown in such a warm region, Bobal retains high levels of natural acidity that keep the wines fresh and energetic. The estate was founded by Adolfo de las Heras Marín in the mid 1980s, and he was an early and enthusiastic participant in the quality-focused revolution that was beginning in the region. While he initially championed native regional grapes like Bobal and Moscatel, Adolfo gradually expanded experimental plantings of international varieties like Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. The estate's ownership has since passed to Adolfo's son, but it remains a family-owned affair helmed by talented winemaker Ángela Pardo. En La Parra translates roughly to 'in the vines,' and it's a fitting name, since the Bodegas Nodus' focus has always been on the health of their vineyards. This organically-farmed Bobal is should be enjoyed over the next 2-3 years at about 18 C.

Pairing

This grippy, rustic red calls for simple, bold flavours like red beans and rice, or a hearty, savoury Québécois classic like tourtière.

Aromas and Flavours

Cherry

Fresh B.C. cherries out of the back of a truck, all eaten before you can get them home!

Strawberry

A sweet, almost caramel-like aroma reminiscent of your favourite juicy, red berry.

Plum

Sweet, fruity and sensual, similar stone fruit aromas to a peach, but without the 'fuzziness'.

Pepper

A whiff of a freshly used pepper grinder - spicy and fresh, without the itchy nose.

Chocolate

From milk to dark chocolate, this aroma is irresistible, just like that bar hidden in your drawer.
