Profile

Description

Portuguese wines are having a long-overdue moment in the spotlight, so we're excited to share not one, but two fantastic bottles from Douro-based cooperative Lavradores de Feitoria. Comprised of 15 families, all with deep roots in Portugal's winemaking history, the cooperative pools their know-how along with their estate-farmed grapes to make authentic expressions of the Douro's unique terroir. The Estrada red is a blend of four grape varieties, the majority of which are indigenous to Portugal: Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz (Spain's famous Tempranillo), and Tinta Barroca. If you love Port, you'll find echoes of the same flavours in this wine, without any of the sweetness or elevated alcohol. This is a great introduction to the varied styles that exist in this beautiful country. Serve at a cool 16 C and enjoy over the next 2-3 years.

Pairing

Soft tannins and vibrant fruit make this excellent on its own, but it's also a great match for spicy chicken wings or vegetable curry.

Aromas and Flavours

Cherry

Fresh B.C. cherries out of the back of a truck, all eaten before you can get them home!

Raspberry

Tangy or sweet, juicy or tart: more sophisticated than a strawberry, but just as lush.

Jam

Spreading grandma's homemade jam on your morning toast (yes, the bread was homemade too).

Bramble

Juicy dark berries picked straight from the bush, with a subtle hint of leaf and earthiness.

Nutmeg-cloves

Think of the holidays - a warm and woody spice found in your favourite baked goodies.
