Description
Portuguese wines are truly having a moment in the international spotlight, and we couldn't be more excited about the quality and diversity of the offerings we've been tasting. Our latest finds are the Flor d'Penalva blends from Adega de Penalva, located in Dão, Portugal's oldest wine region. Just south of the famous Douro Valley (the homeland of Port), Dão enjoys a temperate climate that allows for even ripening of a wide variety of grapes.
Flor d'Penalva's white is a blend of Malvasia Fina and two rare indigenous grape varieties, Cerceal Branco and Borrado. Though the cooperative has grown considerably since its inception in 1960, Adega de Penalva remains focussed on creating benchmark expressions of the Dão, and this blend is a wonderful example. If your only exposure to Portuguese white wines is Vinho Verde, this will offer an intriguing peak at what else the country can produce. Enjoy at a well-chilled 8 C over the next 2-3 years.
