Description
We featured Giuliana Vicini's bright, expressive Rosato last summer, so when we were offered a chance to debut the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo from their new Bio range as a WineCollective exclusive, it was met with an enthusiastic "Yes please!" from our team! Winemaker Chiara Ciavolich named the winery in honour of her aunt, Giuliana, who gifted the vineyard's land to her. Giuliana had wanted to be a winemaker, but back in those days, it was sadly not an option for women. The only "catch" to the bequeathal was that the land be used to make wines without pretension, at prices that were accessible to most people. Thus could the legacy of the Vicini name be carried into the future, and properly pay tribute to the women who were so central to the family's success.
This organically-farmed Montepulciano captures everything we love about this indigenous grape variety. Serve it at about 18 C and enjoy over the next 2-3 years.
Pairing
Montepuciano d'Abruzzo pairs beautifully with hearty, savoury foods, so pair this example with a meat lover's pizza or burgers.
